PSA Squash World Cships 2026: Veer Chotrani falls short of world no.1 Asal

Indian squash player Veer Chotrani’s campaign at the 2026 PSA World Championships ended in the Round of 32 after a straight-game defeat to defending champion and world number one Mostafa Asal in Giza, Egypt. The match ended with scores of 5-11, 2-11, 4-11, leaving Veer unable to mount a serious challenge against the dominant home favorite.

Veer managed only 11 points across the three games, falling short in his second consecutive second-round exit at the world event. Last year, he was eliminated at the same stage by then-world number one Ali Farag.

Earlier in the tournament, Veer had pulled off an upset victory over his compatriot and India’s top-ranked player, Abhay Singh, in a grueling hour-long match. However, the momentum did not carry forward as he faced the formidable Asal.

The other Indian contenders, Ramit Tandon and Velavan Senthilkumar, also suffered early exits on Saturday. This marks India’s third straight second-round exit at the World Squash Championships, with Sourav Ghosal being the last Indian to reach the Round of 16 in 2023.

As the Indian squash contingent looks ahead, their focus will be on regaining form in upcoming tournaments to build confidence before the 2026 Asian Games.
