After a quick exit in the first round of the WTA 1000 in Rome, Haddad Maia got off to a shaky start against Parry, who raced to a 3-0 lead. The top Brazilian managed to level the match briefly but eventually dropped the first set 6-3. In the second set, her serve proved inconsistent—effective when landing the first serve, but vulnerable when forced to rely on the second. This led to another loss, 6-2.
With her victory over Haddad Maia, Parry advances to face compatriot Chloe Paquet, who pulled off a comeback win against Australian third seed Maya Joint, 5/7, 6/0, 6/3. The result adds to a tough stretch for Haddad Maia, who will look to regroup ahead of upcoming clay-court events.
