Dinamo Moscow avenged past defeats and dealt a major blow to Krasnodar’s championship hopes. Zenit now only needs to avoid losing to Rostov to secure the title.
Krasnodar fell 1-2 away to Dynamo Moscow in the central match of the 29th round of the MIR Russian Premier League, failing to reclaim the top spot in the standings. The hero of the game was former Zenit goalkeeper Andrey Lunev, while the winning goal was scored by another ex-Zenit player, Ivan Sergeev.
**A Decisive Season Match**
For the third consecutive year, the outcome of the championship has directly depended on the clashes between Dynamo and Krasnodar. In 2024, Dynamo were close to gold but lost away to the Bulls, costing them the long-awaited title. A year later, Krasnodar held firm in a similar situation, clinching their first-ever trophy. This time, the White-Blues played a supporting role again: they could influence the medal distribution, but were long out of the race for the top spots.

With Zenit’s victory over Sochi, Krasnodar needed nothing less than a win to return to the top. Given the remaining schedules of the two title contenders, the match at VTB Arena offered the Bulls a chance, to use a tennis term, to earn a hidden match point. In the final round, they will host Orenburg, a game where Krasnodar looks a clear favorite. But three points against Dynamo were far from guaranteed.
