Visma-Lease a Bike announced on Monday a major setback for their ambitions at La Vuelta Femenina, confirming that Dutch rider Marianne Vos will not start the second stage after fracturing her collarbone in a crash during the final kilometers of the opening stage.

The team shared the news on social media, stating: “Marianne Vos will not take the start in stage 2 of La Vuelta Femenina. She suffered a broken collarbone in the crash she had in the closing kilometers of the first stage. We wish Marianne a good and speedy recovery.”

Despite the crash, Vos still managed to contest the sprint finish in Salvaterra de Miño, where she crossed the line in seventh place. However, her withdrawal leaves French rider Pauline Ferrand-Prévot as Visma’s sole leader. Ferrand-Prévot, who already supported Vos at the recent Paris-Roubaix, will now aim for the overall classification in a race that loses one of the greatest cyclists in history.
