Olivia Miles finally got a true taste of the WNBA, and it hit hard. After her preseason debut felt more like a college scrimmage, the Minnesota Lynx guard stepped into the real thing on Sunday night—a physical, high‑stakes opener against the Atlanta Dream. The difference, she admitted, was immediate.
“Was feeling it wind‑wise. You know that the pace and the intensity is different. Obviously, you’re being really physical both on and off the ball,” Miles said after the game. But the mental weight of the result stung even more. The Lynx fell 91‑90 in a nail‑biter, and Miles took the loss personally. “I’m kind of beating myself up for the end there,” she confessed.

Despite the self‑criticism, Miles turned in a remarkable performance. She led the team with 21 points and eight assists, adding three rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. It was also a historic outing: she became just the fifth player in WNBA history to record at least 20 points and five assists in her debut.
But individual accolades offered little solace when the scoreboard told a painful story. The Lynx had controlled the game for 96 percent of the action, at one point building a 19‑point lead. To let that slip away made the defeat feel even heavier.

The next opportunity comes quickly. Minnesota faces the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, and Miles plans to channel her frustration into growth. “My teammates are assuring me I’ll learn. I can’t wait to just grow after every game and see more and more and learn more and more,” she said. If she can build on her debut, more wins will follow—though the sting of this loss will linger as a lesson learned.
